End of day 6.

End of day 6. Calling it a night. Played cribbage on the lakefront until even massive amounts of deet couldn’t keep the Mosquitos at bay. Staying at a place called the Root Cellar. $2.75 well drinks and 2 for 1pork shank dinners. Rooms are nicer than the double tree. $50. No cell service but they have this internet thing going. Gotta love the upper peninsula. We are remote.

1500+ miles so far. 6 more days. Tomorrow copper harbor and the kewanee peninsula. IMHO probably the most spectacular place in MI. Also home of the Jam Pot monastery (an actual monastery). I am aware only of one other person who knows about this or who has been there 🙂.

The best part of these rides is talking to the locals. We talked to a lady today in Ontonagan. In the last 3 or four years all the major employers shut down, the mine, paper mill and the sawmill. Last winter ( hard for everyone) they got over 400 inches of snow. Yet they take it and deal with it. Amazing….
