Starting to prep..

About 7 weeks out. Starting to prep. The boys and I are working on journey 2015 (not yet named). When the summer journeys were on the boat we called them scotch runs. We stepped on the boat and about 30 years of maturity fell into the water. Heading north into the Georgian Bay and North Channel for a couple of weeks we would meander during the day and anchoring off islands or small harbor towns at night, have a few scotches on the back deck, waiting for the northern lights. Since I sold the boat, we took up motorcycles. Last year we circled Lake Superior.

This year we are are heading west. We are figuring 5k to 6k miles, 17 states, 15 to 18 days. Meeting up with good friends from Cheyenne, WY somewhere in South Dakota (2 weeks after Sturgis), then continue proceeding west through WY, MT, CO, & perhaps ID. Current plan is to take the northern route out through MI’s upper peninsula, WI, MN, ND, SD… Coming back through NE, KS, IA, MO, IL, IN then up into MI. It doesn’t look like my brother will be able to make it this year. He is selling his house in Chicago and moving out to NC. Maybe next year. I am thinking then Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island.

Taking the week after the 4th off to prep the bikes and start staging the gear. I have 17 state maps spread out on the kitchen table looking at routes. The plan is to do a lot of camping. Having said that, I know I will need a few nights in a bed, especially after a few days of weather. 🙂 As I get older, I know what I like.

Life is good. Summers are short in the north.
