Hendersonville, NC

Woke up 7ish and loaded up.  Had checked the ole google map and the closest coffee place was 21 miles away..  really?  Super 8 coffee.  Two cups.  830 on the road.  Fresh morning.  Body was rested and ready for the day.

Nice ride through Virginia.  Some neat fog in the valleys.   Great roads.  Great vistas.  Took my time.  Totally easy ride.  Not much traffic…

Crossed into Tennessee at some point and stopped in Kingsport..  I needed a good coffee fix.  Had a decent cup of coffee in a little shop downtown.  Spent about 45 minutes.  Town was very quiet.  Of course it was getting hot and humid.   Headed out of town, fueled up and got turned around looking for the the interstate ramp.  No straight roads.  You can see it.  But you just can’t find it.  In less than an hour I stopped at a TN rest stop at the NC state line…  The trouble with drinking coffee.

Sat under a pavilion and had a cigar.  Just taking my time.  That felt nice..  Talked with a security guard that came over and who was appreciative of the conversation and a chance to tell me his history.  It was a long history.   It was getting even hotter.  Wow.

I was about 50-60 miles from Hendersonville, got a hold of my brother and  He was going to get on his bike, drive up and meet me halfway.   We decided to meet at one of those fancy new restaurants (McDonalds) that they have started putting at interstate exits, maybe you have seen them…   I got turned around on the interstate bypasses coming through Asheville.  Finally got it straightened out, found the correct road and exit, and found the Mickey D’s and my brother.. Parked the bike next to his, A couple of quick hugs and it started to rain.   We scooted in for something to drink and waited for the wx to pass.

We headed south to Hendersonville.  30 miles ride through pretty countryside to his temporary home.  Unloaded some gear.  Had some quick beers and went out for a ride.

Hendersonville is a very nice upscale / artsy / touristy type town.   Went out to a place called Throw Off rock just outside of town.  1st and 2nd gear type drive for 5-6 miles.  Beautiful homes, vistas etc..  Great views at the top.

Back down the mountain into town.  By that time it was well into the dinner hour so to a local establishment, guess what we did?

Dinner, then back to his place where we sat out in a beautiful NC evening.  Laughed. We might have had a couple of drinks.  The plan tomorrow is on heading into SC, look at some homes in the area and just generally goof around.  Great evening catching up and complementing ourselves on both of us being retired and full of shit.

Life is good.
