On the Road Again..

Now that the Autumnal Equinox has arrived and the Druids have cleared out, its time to get back on the road..

The blog is being fired up again! Next weekend, Irena and I are heading out on a road trip for the month of October. Other than visiting our son in Seattle mid-month for a few days, we have no plans, have made no reservations and plan on just meandering.

We are having some work done on our house and we need to vacate. They say they need three weeks but I am betting at least four.

We are getting new flooring. The basement is done, now its time for the rest. All of our furniture, hanging clothes, clothes on the floor,  plants, appliances etc need to be moved out. For the last few weeks, we have been packing, purging I do not know how many years of crap (it’s really embarrassing what we found) , fixing stuff I should have years ago (also very embarrassing) – you get the idea. We are all but ready to go. The house is currently filled with boxes, everything is dismantled, all clothes are packed and there are like 3 things left in the fridge that neither of us want to eat. But the fridge needs to be moved out as well.

The transmission went out on the beast (Suburban) a few weeks ago so we have a brand new GM factory replacement, a new windshield and a fresh oil change. There is a Garmin GPS with a fresh map update for those areas w zero cell coverage. Paper maps for backup. We’re packing some folding chairs for end of day relaxation out in front of those great little motels I am sure we will find.   I’m even thinking of getting new underwear for the trip, or should I wait until I get back?  Or is that too much information?

Come along for the ride. Keep in mind that we are planning to do the ‘mom and pop’ motels, travel the back roads, eat at diners, stop and look at weird stuff and make time for laundry stops. So this is not a trip we found at Costco.  General directions are north into the UP, then west to Seattle by some time mid-month. Then south for a bit and head back east towards home by the end of October. I am guessing 7k to 8k miles.  We are hoping to stop and see old friends when we can. If you see us coming your way and are up for it, give us a shout!

Life is good..
