Day 12. July 8. The end. Woke up at zero dark thirty and checked the ole weather bug app and saw a big system coming across Lake Michigan. Rousted the boys and advised it was load and scoot time. Time to brush our teeth, strap on the gear, hug my brother goodbye and head east with the boys.
Nice ride for the first hundred some miles early in the morn on the front of the storm. My brother was heading into it but would ride out of it sooner. Light traffic on a great county road. Nothing notable but when you’re heading home, that’s a good thing. About 50 miles from home we stopped and threw on rain gear. Light rain until we made it home. 20 minutes after that the thunder boomers arrived.
As we were pulling in I got a text from my brother Laddie that he had hunkered down near Holland due to heavy rain. He had the trip around the southern tip of Lake Michigan through Gary, IN yet to do. The good thing is he will miss rush hour traffic into Chicago.
2,500 miles. 23 fuel stops. 3 states 2 countries No major equipment issues. Speedometer went out on Alex’s Suzuki Intruder a few days back. Jonathan’s Yamaha Seca needs tires now and he broke the helmet mount for his GoPro camera. I broke my GPS mount. Now oil changes for all the bikes, check brakes, bolts, thorough cleaning (they are mess), etc….
Sitting in the garage after a shower and a shave (after 12 days without) watching the rain still come down Looks like another hour or so. Back to reality. Looking at several hundred emails from work to plow through but I have expertly foreseen this and scheduled tomorrow off as well. Need to ease back into this. Was supposed to go to Boston on Thursday but I am thinking, no. 🙂
Thanks to all who commented and followed the ride. It was appreciated. I am normally not a ‘Facebooker’ however with picture requests I thought it was the easiest way.
Jonathan is catching up with his blog – ‘stranman.wordpress.com‘. He is much more eloquent and took lots of pics. He also took literally hours of video from a helmet and bike mounted camera. He will edit it down to a 3 or 4 minute one and get it posted either on his blog or you tube. Some of you have seen some of his other creations. He does a good job – yes I am biased. At any rate check out his blogs for a different ‘perspective’, more pics and soon to be released video.
Time spent like this with family is what it’s all about.🙂
Just got a text and pic from my brother. He is at Warren Dunes at the southern tip of the Lake. Sunny with 50-60 miles to go.
