Off from Heyward Island approx. 900a to Tobermory. LD at the wheel. Beautiful sailing and then dense fog. PS and LD in frantic search for the ‘white shingle’. A small isle of rock barely visible in good weather and invisible in the fog. Two yards dead ahead and LD took us to port, around the shingle and on to Tobermory. On reaching the mooring we were advise all power out on the peninsula. So we were delayed for 6 hours
Spent the time shopping and cleaning the boat. Power came at 445p so we loaded the boat back up with supplies and tackle, gassed up at the fuel docks. Off to Kincardine at 600p.
Smooth sailing for the first 50 miles or so. Then patchy fog. Then dense fog. PQ at the wheel and all hands on watch. Ten miles out of our turning point, PS took the wheel. Rechartered and proceeded east into the pea soup. ¼ mile out the light house was spotted. A few hundred yards out the fog cleared and we idled into port. We were serenaded by a bagpiper atop the Kincardine lighthouse as our arrival happened to coincide with the setting of the sun. dined in town on fish and chips and Coors Light. Very invigorating day with the white shingle, dense fog, power out and more dense fog. Scotch was especially tasty tonight.
