Scotch Run I – Day 7

Thursday, August 7, 2003

Off from Heyward Island approx. 900a to Tobermory.  LD at the wheel.  Beautiful sailing and then dense fog.   PS and LD in frantic search for the ‘white shingle’.   A small isle of rock barely visible in good weather and invisible in the fog.  Two yards dead ahead and LD took us to port, around the shingle and on to Tobermory.  On reaching the mooring we were advise all power out on the peninsula.  So we were delayed for 6 hours Continue reading

Scotch Run I – Day 5

PQ – Decided not to take day trips and to listen to Disco Frankie.  We left Killarney and the Sportsman’s Inn.  Headed to Baie Fine, a beautiful but narrow passage.  Paul had the helm most of the day and navigated the passage from Killarney well.  Went through the main channel, fjord and ended up in the pool.  Calm but fishing poor there as well.  Laddie on the bow looking for rocks a la Katherine Hepburn in ‘On Golden Pond’. Scotch Run I – Day 3

PQ – Left Kincardine at 930a.  Calls to home port Brighton shows weather to be a concern.  Paul met 3 men with larger boat who were going to Tobermory well so we decided to follow them up.  They chartered a more inland route tso we never caught up until much later.  Captain Paul piloted us out and we had some wind and waves less than one meter.  Had some fog for a while but Paul steered us through.  But density increased so Paul and Laddie re-plotted our course. Continue reading

Paul – Left Sarnia about 10a.  About 8 miles past the Blue Water Bridge – sudden power loss.   Laddie behind the wheel.  We figured his problem – ya know?  🙂

Stopped the boat.  Pulled the engine covers.  Bilges dry, engine smooth.  Started up again.  Running very rough.  Stopped again.  Continue reading
