Scotch Run I – Day 3

Sunday, 8/3/2003

PQ – Left Kincardine at 930a.  Calls to home port Brighton shows weather to be a concern.  Paul met 3 men with larger boat who were going to Tobermory well so we decided to follow them up.  They chartered a more inland route tso we never caught up until much later.  Captain Paul piloted us out and we had some wind and waves less than one meter.  Had some fog for a while but Paul steered us through.  But density increased so Paul and Laddie re-plotted our course.

I took the wheel a while not re-plotting.  Laddie was lookout as visibility got down to less than 200’.  Speed down to 10mph

Paul took back the wheel and began the last stretch to Tobermory.  The three boats we were supposed to follow up had different plots to enter Tobermory and ended up on our port side about 1 ½ miles out.  After staying in radio contact all morning we gave them our course and they decided to follow us in.  So, Captain Paul, the smallest of the boats, led in the three. A victory for GPS preparation and the the Crew of Eagles Wings.

Arrived in Tobermory at 115p.  Waited in line at Little Tub for fuel, gave up and decided to dock  and fuel tomorrow.

Finally got our fishing licenses, boss took a lady/girl at ice cream duty to give us our licenses, $22.50 per…

Fish tacos, a beer, a long walk to the hardware store took up the afternoon.   Tobermory small but everyone friendly.  56’ Sea Ray from Howell, MI and another 50’ Sea Ray from Plymouth, MI docked here as well.

Rained most of the night, stayed in after fish and chips, told stories, drank scotch and lights out at 11p
