A beautiful morning. Winds had abated significantly. Still warming up quick but not like yesterday. Hotel coffee while I was loading the bike. The boys taking advantage of the free breakfast. Loaded bikes generate conversations with folks passing by. Nice retired couple from Atlanta. I was moving my bike to give a lady more space. ‘You’re fine’ she says. ‘My husband has 7 of them’ with a big smile. Her husband has rented bikes all over Europe and has travelled across the US. Young gentlemen working on hotel projects outside, probably spending too much time inquiring.. Continue reading

Day 13 Kansas – Wind, Heat and Bugs
Oh what a day. We really took out time checking out this morning. Got on the road 1030ish. Needed the sleep. Headed south out of town into Kansas and fueled up in Oberlin. We found a ‘scenic byway’ on the map about 30 miles south that headed east for a ways. Seeing as how scenic this part of the country is, we headed down there.

Day 12 Nebraska
A very full day. Got out of Mike’s place by about 830. Which is good considering the late night before. Fueled up in Encampment at the only gas station in town. One pump gas. One pump diesel.. Not a cloud in the sky. Continue reading
Day 11 Encampment
Great sleep in the canyon. Got up early. Filtered some pure mountain stream water. Started a fire and got the coffee going. Some little critter was rustling around my tent last night but one whack on the side of the tent and it scooted off.

Day 10 Idaho to Sinks Canyon
Good nights sleep. Got up early to push out the blog stuff. Had my camp chair still put together from the previous evening. Got a cup of coffee from the lobby and parked myself outside the room in my sweats and hoodie. Probably in the high 40s, low 50s but beautiful morning.. Not a cloud in the sky. Continue reading
Day 9 Old Faithful, the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole
Planned on an easy day today. Big thunder boomers over the night. Threw everything in my tent last night. About 5a needed to get up and use the facilities. Couldn’t find my glasses. Found the facilities. Couldn’t find the tent then. It was dark. Eventually I found the tent and cranked off another hour of sleep.

Day 8 Yellowstone
Nice morning. Woke up at over 7000′ in the Montana mountains. Blogs will be delayed due to lack of wifi / cell service in the wilderness. We started with some of Mike’s famous camp coffee made with filtered mountain stream water. Good and strong. Had to stop at an auto parts store in Red Lodge to fix the tail light on my Honda. Headed out of town for the Bear Tooth Pass into Yellowstone. Continue reading
Day 7 Montana and the Pig Races
Late start this morning. Mainly from me. The late nights are not compatible blogging at the end of the day so I have been trying to push these out early before anyone gets up. Slept well at the Blue Gables Motel and Coffee Cafe. The lady who runs the place loves to talk and will serve you all the coffee you want in the morning. Continue reading
Day 6. We stay in Buffalo
Great Day. Woke up and the storm had passed. I got up in the morning before all and sat under the trees to write the blog. No cell service so posting will have to wait. Sheriff’s deputy stopped while he was cruising the campground. Gave us some good tips on the area. Continue reading
Day 5 The mountains, the big ones
Wednesday. We packed up and rolled out of Rapid City right around nine-ish. With the sounds of the previous night’s karaoke in our heads we got onto the interstate and headed west. Sunny and supposed to be hot. Easy ride at speed. After about 40 miles we got off and on to a 2 laner to go see the place for close encounters, Devils Tower.
