SDay 12. July 8. The end
Day 12. July 8. The end. Woke up at zero dark thirty and checked the ole weather bug app and saw a big system coming across Lake Michigan. Rousted the boys and advised it was load and scoot time. Time to brush our teeth, strap on the gear, hug my brother goodbye and head east with the boys.
Nice ride for the first hundred some miles Continue reading
Day 11, July 7th. Wolverine to Greenville
Day 11, July 7th. Wolverine to Greenville. Great sleep last night. Babbling stream, dead quiet and middle of nowhere dark… Took our time gearing up the bikes. Forgot the leftover pizza in the fridge. Stopped at Betty’s for breakfast. 6 or 7 tables and you can watch her make it right there! Amazing.🙂 Another regular stop when heading south…
The ride was uneventful. Sunny but cool. As we rode we stopped and peeled off layers as the day warmed. Continue reading
Day 10. Paradise to Wolverine. End of day.
Day 10. Paradise to Wolverine. End of day. Sort of. It’s 7p and we are hunkered down. Went out for dinner in one of my favorite haunts in Northern Michigan
Today we hit weather again. Got out of Paradise and kept our rain gear handy. Spent time in the morning talking to other bikers who were traveling to all sorts of points, from all sorts of points. Two couples on Honda gold wings Continue reading
Day 9, Saturday, 7/5. Munising to Paradise
Day 9, Saturday, 7/5. Munising to Paradise. First thing I got to do this morning was the mosquito dance trying to load my bike. Not only that, I couldn’t find the repellant so I had to put my helmet on to try and keep them off my face. It’s a good thing no one saw me waving my arms, repeating the same expletive, with my helmet on. I am a very self conscious individual….. 🙂
H58 is a county highway from Munising to Grand Marias. About 50 miles. It follows the bluffs above Lake Superior. A couple of years ago Continue reading
Day 8. Fourth of July. Houghton to Munising.
Day 8. Fourth of July. Houghton to Munising. Life is good. A couple hundred miles or so on the bikes. Absolutely gorgeous weather. Days like today make you appreciate summer. Low 70s. No humidity and a few whisps of clouds. Lazy start again. Mainly because we were laughing, talking and sharing until well after midnight. We probably did not roll out of Houghton until about 1030a. Stopped for gas first thing and a couple of the bikes needed a little oil…
First stop was in Ispheming at ‘Da Yoopers Tourist Trap’. An actual store. Continue reading
End of day 7. Houghton, MI
End of day 7. After laundry we left for Copper Harbor. I left the bra at the laundromat. I decided it wasn’t mine. 🙂
The roads in the Keweenaw peninsula are nothing short of great. Skirting Lake Superior, big changes in elevation, twisties, hairpin turns, beaches, forests and cute as a button little towns. Continue reading
Laundry cont..
Ok so I pulled my clothes out of the washer and there was a bra in there????? Gotta love the UP!
Day 7. Laundry
Day 7. Beautiful day. Sunny low 60s, high 50’s. Got stuck on a gravel fire road for 20-30 miles. Slow go but nice. Until a sign said ‘one lane road – with turnouts’. Not all were thrilled w my route planning . 🙁 Now in Houghton. Today is laundry day. At the ‘loads of fun’ laundromat. Making up for the gravel. 🙂 Doing that and lunch, then the trek up to Copper harbor. Continue reading
End of day 6.
End of day 6. Calling it a night. Played cribbage on the lakefront until even massive amounts of deet couldn’t keep the Mosquitos at bay. Staying at a place called the Root Cellar. $2.75 well drinks and 2 for 1pork shank dinners. Rooms are nicer than the double tree. $50. No cell service but they have this internet thing going. Gotta love the upper peninsula. We are remote. Continue reading
